I CAN WIN walk and screening program a grand success

Nov 8, 2009 ---The District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Shree Deepak Agarwal today flagged off the first Indian CANcer WINners Association (I CAN WIN) walk and mass screening program at NOIDA. Nearly eight hundred participants walked from Spice Mall in Sector 25 to the Hanuman Mandir in Sector 20 in order to create mass awareness about cancer.

On the occasion, Shree Agarwal appreciated I CAN WIN association’s efforts in creating mass awareness about cancer. He said, “In order to be able to control cancer, it is important that each one of us is aware of the early signs and symptoms of cancer. Only then is early detection and prompt treatment feasible.’ After the ceremonial lamp was lit, he flagged off the walk. Balloons were carrying banners that said 'I CAN WIN' were released. Flower crackers showered rose petals as the walk proceeded to the temple.

Several cancer survivors (whom the I CAN WIN association refers to as ‘cancer winners’) from Delhi, NOIDA, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Cuttack, Gurgaon and Moradabad walked along. The physicians and surgeons who walked with them included Dr RK Grover, Director of Delhi State Cancer Institute, Dr Pawan Gupta, Dr Rudra Prasad Acharya, Dr Vijay Nath Mishra, Dr Keshav Naithani, Dr Natasha Das, Dr Anita Khokhar, Dr Anuradha Sural, Dr Vishal Juneja, Dr Geetika Juneja, Dr Manish Wadhwa, Dr Kulveen Wadhwa, Dr BC gupta, Dr KK Gupta, Dr Monica Gupta, and Dr Ratnesh Srivastav, Dr Kantoor Other dignitaries from varied fields included Mr KK Pandey, the Chief Project Officer, NOIDA authority, Dr. Surendra K Kansal, Director (Admnistration) of ABES Engineering College, Ghaziabad, Prof RG Mendiratta, Director (Academic), ABES Engineering College, Ghaziabad, Mr Prabhakar Gupta, President of the Rotary Club of NOIDA (central), Shri Vinod Kumar from MECON, Mr Anup Khana, District President of NOIDA chemist association among others. Students from Nehru Public School, Ghaziabad Public School, ABES Engineering College, a cricket academy, a dental college in Faridabad and nurses from the Curie Cancer Centre in SMH, Kakardoma also participated enthusiastically.

At the temple, free screening camp had been organized for oral cancer and breast cancer. Speaking to the representatives from media present there, Dr Pawan Gupta, the National President of the association said, “We walked from a mall to a mandir to symbolize that we need to go back to our roots again and change our modern lifestyles in order to be able to control cancer. Be careful, not fearful of cancer.”
