I CAN WIN Tutorial - HOW TO QUIT TOBACCO on WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY

INDIAN CANCER WINNERS’ ASSOCIATION - Faridabad Chapter

May 26, 2011

Dear Friends,

Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death. This year, more than 5 million people will die from a tobacco-related heart attack, stroke, cancer, lung ailment or other disease. That does not include the more than 600,000 people – more than a quarter of them children – who will die from exposure to second-hand smoke. The annual death toll from the global epidemic of tobacco use could rise to 8 million by 2030. Having killed 100 million people during the 20th century, tobacco use could kill 1 billion during the 21st century. We can control the tobacco epidemic only when we all join together against this disease.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India; the World Health Organisation and the Dep’t. of Psychiatry & De-Addiction Services & Resource Centre for Tobacco Control, PGIMER- Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi in partnership with the Indian Cancer Winners’ Association is organizing an I CAN WIN Tutorial on “HOW TO QUIT TOBACCO” to guide doctors in Tobacco Dependence and Treatment Guidelines.

The Tutorial will be organized at The Auditorium, The Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, Faridabad on 18th June 2011, between 2-5 pm.
By the end of this tutorial it is expected that the participants would gain considerable knowledge about the type, pattern and the magnitude of the problem of tobacco use, the constituents and harms of tobacco products and most importantly how they can guide their patients on quitting tobacco by various methods.

We invite your presence and participation in the I CAN WIN Tutorial on HOW TO QUIT TOBACCO and look forward to your valuable contribution to the Society in controlling the tobacco epidemic.
