Principal,Mr. Sanjey Rana, the principal I/c commented that self discipline is the best way to adopt a tobacco free life and also students need to volunteer for ICanWin foundation and bring in changes in the society that can sanitize from tobacco and be sensitized towards this menace.

Tobacco sensitization program is supported by District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC, c/o Chief Medical Officer Meerut, Govt of UP), under the National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) 2019-20 coverage.

Volunteers deliberated on the ill effects of tobacco on the youth, their family members and members in the society, overall health and financial burden in India and explained the relevance of SAVE the Youth – Win Over Tobacco program to control tobacco menace.

“Be Smart Do Not Start” comic booklet on tobacco awareness authored by Dr Pawan Gupta, MS MCH (National President of ICanWin Foundation and Sr Cancer Surgeon) was distributed among the 206 students and teachers; a quiz competition was conducted at the end to which students answered as per their understanding.

A Tobacco Control Committee consisting of 4 teachers was formed in the school to keep an eye on different tobacco related activities and its violation under COTPA 2003.Yellow line campaign conducted with a painting depicting the school as tobacco free zone.

Indian Cancer Winners' Association participated in the Health Mela organised by members of I.M.A. West Ghaziabad & SPARSH on 25/12/2011 (Sunday) at Sun Valley International School, Sector-1, Vasundhara, Ghaziabad.

Different organizations were invited by the doctor members. Many pharmaceutical companies displayed their products with literature etc.

Our Indian Cancer Winners’ Association also participated through Banners, Posters, & Pamphlets etc. Dr Shikha Jindal, I CAN WIN MEMBER EXPERT, explained about cancer to around 3000 persons who visited our stall. She examined some of the ladies who volunteered for screeing and explained them the method of self examination of breast.

In the auditorium of the school, National Secretary Shri Suresh Prakash introduced I CAN WIN Association. Society’s main object and infrastructure was explained there.
After serving the lunch by the host members the event was finished at about 2.30 pm.

I CAN WIN - POSITIVE ABOUT LIFE Camp and Workshop at ASHADEEP Hospital Moradabad Jan.20.2010 A “win over cancer” cancer Awareness workshop was held on 20th Jan 2010 at Moradabad. The camp was arranged in collaboration with ASHADEEP Hospital, Moradabad. The following specialist attended the camp and explained to the people the method of Self Breast Awareness. Dr. Pawan Gupta Dr. Amit Jain Dr. Ajay Agarwal Dr. Vimita Agarwal Mr Suresh Prakash, Secretary Indian Cancer Winners’ Association talked to the people and local Practitioners about his vision of making Moradabad area as a cancer aware area. Around 80 registrations were made of which 10 cases were detected which would require further investigations and treatment. The camp was followed by a discussion with the local general practitioners. Dr Pawan Gupta discussed the early detection of cancer and its treatment. The camp and discussion which started at 11.00 am in the morning was over at 6.00 pm in the evening. CANCER WINNER – Mr Abdul Rauf Shamshed
Mr Abdul 65 year old man was diagnosed with carcinoma of larynx in 1998. He had lost all hopes of living, but did not deter from taking the evidence based treatment. Larynx (VOICE BOX) is an organ present just above the trachea (WIND PIPE), it helps protect the windpipe and also used for creating voice. The disease was quiet advance and as a treatment modality he had to sacrifice his voice box. He also received radiotherapy after the surgery.
12 years after his treatment he is doing well and is using an artificial instrument for his voice. He is a WINNER!
Since then he has helped number of patients to get the correct treatment. His mission to make more winners and change the way cancer is perceived by the society.

Shri Hukam Chand Goel Memorial “win over cancer” Breast Cancer Awareness and free checkup camp was held on 17th Jan 2010 at Maharaja Agrasen Udyan Community Centre, D-Block Ramprastha, Ghaziabad. The program was organized and conducted by Shri Rajesh Goel, Dr Nita Jain, Mr B.K.Agarwal, Mr Vinod Goel.

"Shri Hukam Chand Goel was born in Bahadurgarh, Haryana and was broughtup at Lahore from where he shifted to Delhi after partition in 1947 alogwith his father Shri Jaishi Ram Goel, renowned Advocate at Delhi, He joined the Services of State Trading Corp. of India in 1961 and retired as Chief Legal Adviser in 1989. there after he joined the Legal Profession as an accomplished Advocate and was the President of the Vaish Sabha, Ramprastha. He was a known social worker and left for his heavenly abode on 16.2.2009. His Son Shri Rajesh Goel is an Advocate with more than 25 years of practice looking after Motor Accidents Claim Cases and his father Shri J.R.Goel retired from the
legal profession in 2009 and is aged 102 years on date." Sri Rajesh Goel has instituted the annual “Sri Hukam Chand Goel memorial “WIN OVER CANCER” program at Ramprashta. He envisions to make each and every occupant of Ramprastha Cancer literate.

The camp was followed by a discussion with the local general practitioners. Dr Pawan Gupta discussed the early detection of cancer and its treatment. Dr Natasha explained the clinical examination of breast and its early detection. Dr. A.K. Mittal from Pushpanjali Crosslay Hospital aware to all participants about cause and symptoms of breast and Cervical cancer and treatment.

Mrs. Rani Issac and Dr. Natasha Das conducted the workshop and examination of ladies.
The awareness programm and workshop was organized by Mr.& Mrs. Rajesh Goel (Member Executive) of Indian Cancer Winners’ Association and Dr. Nita Jain residence of local area of Ramprastha, Ghaziabad. Mr. Suresh Prakash (National Secretary of Indian Cancer Winners’ Association) aware to all participants about Indian Cancer Winners’ Association. Mr. Rajesh Goel, Mr. J.L. Nijhawan, Mr. Paras Nath Sah helped to conduct this programme.

Mr. Vinod Wangnoo from CHEVERE Pharmasys Ltd. gave free medicines following screening.
The camp and discussion which started at 10.00 am in the morning was over at 2.00 pm evening.

Dr Natasha explained how a woman can do a self examination of her own breasts and contribute towards early detection of breast cancer. Dr. Rudra discussed about the causes and symptoms of breast cancer and its treatment. This was followed by high tea.
Mrs. Rani Issac helped Dr. Natasha in conducting a free screening for breast related ailments.

The entire program lasted from 10.00 am in the morning to 2.00 pm.

I CAN WIN Oral Cancer Screening awareness workshop and free checkup was held on 9th August, 2009 at Moradabad. It was jointly organized with Rotary Club Moradabad Sanskriti. The workshop at Ashadeep Hospital, inaugurated by Mayor of Moradabad Dr. A.T. Hasan. Cancer is caused by our habits. There are many deaths by oral cancer in our country. He request to all public of Moradabad to quit the habit of Tobacco. He also reiterated that cancer if detected early can be cured, and coaxed the public to participate in cancer awareness programs initiated by the Indian Cancer Winners’ Association - Moradabad Chapter.

Balanced, accurate information is essential to ensure that the benefits of breast cancer screening outweigh its risks, says Hilary Jefferies

Serious shortcomings in the information given to women in the UK who attend for breast cancer screening have been raised by research published online by the British Medical Journal (Gøtzsche et al, 2009).

Three years ago, researchers at the Nordic Cochrane Centre found that breast screening leaflets in six countries, including the UK, omitted to mention the most important harms of screening – the overdiagnosis and overtreatment of healthy women (Gøtzsche et al, 2009).

Now they argue that, although the UK leaflet Breast Screening: The Facts has been updated, it continues to emphasise the benefits and little advice is given about the risks of false positive diagnoses.

Routine breast screening in the UK detects twice as many cases of breast cancer each year than 10 years ago, with 14,110 cases diagnosed in 2007–2008. This may be as a result of an increase in compliance, as more than 1.7 million women were screened in 2007–2008, a rise of 4.3% on the previous year.

However, several authors (Thornton et al, 2003) have expressed concerns over this, and state that, with a doubling of the detection rate of breast cancer, there may also be a doubling of harm. False-positive needle core biopsies – the mainstay of non-operative diagnosis – may lead to mismanaging women. So, while it may be presumed that screening leads to less invasive surgery or simpler treatment, it may actually result in more surgery because of overdiagnosis.

Screening for cervical cancer remains poor, with only 81% of women in England, 83% in Scotland and 74% in Wales being screened. In England in 2003–2004, 4.4 million women were invited for screening and 3.5 million attended, and 260,000 abnormal smears were detected. Reasons often given for not attending for a smear are anxiety and pain. However, early detection of precancerous changes in the cervical stroma may lead to the removal of the affected tissue, or conservative management by keeping the woman under review. Any cervical cancers detected at screening can be treated quickly.

So how do you reply to the question 'Do I go for my screening or not?' The answer must be 'Go for it' and to encourage your patients, friends and families to attend routine screening, particularly if there is a family history of cancer of the colon, breast, endometrium or ovary.

But what about the risks of overtreatment?

Our role as nurses is to give information with the latest evidence about the disease for which the screening is being performed and to be aware of the benefits and the potential harm so informed decisions can be made. Positive results may be confirmed and the risk of false positive results reduced by immunohistochemistry tests on biopsies and blood tests for tumour markers.

While there may be anxiety and fear associated with screening, without it there may be a significant risk that a cancer may not be detected, treatment may not be available if the disease is advanced, and prognosis poor. We need a balanced view of all the information to ensure screening benefits outweigh the risk of harm.
