Dr Pawan Gupta Awarded by the prestigious Rastriya Prabhasi Odia Paribar 2019 award for his contribution to health and social work towards tobacco cessation at a glittering function organised by the Odia Seva Samity on 15^th December 2019 held at the EXPO Centre at Noida. The award was handed over by the Odisha Gaurav Minister of Petroleum and Energy Shri Dharmendra Pradhan.

Dr Pawan Gupta, a Cancer Surgeon par excellence, a social activist and a writer is presently Director in Surgical Oncology at Max Hospital Vaishali. He is the first doctor from Odisha to be M.Ch. degree in Surgical oncology which he did in 2001. In his career of 23 years as surgical oncologist he has treated more than 7000 cases and was pioneer in introducing new methodology and surgical innovation to not only cure but ensure a good quality of life of the patient. He started I CAN WIN FOUNDATION in 2008 with the mission to “win over Cancer” as opposed to fight against cancer. He has done extensive program to create awareness about cancer and detect cancer at early stage.

Dr Pawan launched a “SAVE the Youth” campaign to sensitize, assist, Volunteer training and enforce to “WIN OVER TOBACCO”. Of the numerous books his book WIN OVER TOBACCO-MADE EASY published in 2013 has been well recognised. Another book “BE SMART DO NOT START” a comic book about tobacco for youths has been translated into 7 languages and is being read by students across many states.

Under his guidance ICanCaRe android app has been launched which is a protocol based tobacco and oral screening app first of its kind in the World. A Certified Tobacco Cessation Course for doctors, dentists, counsellors and social people for the first time in India affiliated to Gujarat University has been started and trained many doctors already.

He has conducted 467 camps and workshops on cancer and tobacco, trained 367 doctors, and reached 66278 students and sensitised them about tobacco and cancer.

In recognition of his contribution to health and social responsibility towards the society the award was presented to Dr Pawan Gupta.

डॉ पवन गुप्ता M.Ch, .President, I CAN WIN FOUNDATION में और निदेशक कैंसर विज्ञान जेपी अस्पताल  के साथ www.icancare.org एक प्रशिक्षण GBSSS एनआईटी 3 में शिविर में एनएसएस स्वयंसेवकों के लिए व्याख्यान,फरीदाबाद का आयोजन पर 25 ^{दिसम्बर,} 2017। एक कॉमिक पुस्तिका " जगतुख रहें प्रारंभ न  करे " डॉ पवन गुप्ता द्वारा लिखित को सभी छात्रों को दिया गया और सर्वेक्षण किए गए

शिविर श्री सुशील कनवा द्वारा आयोजित किया जा रहा था।

डॉ पवन गुप्ता ने अपने भाषण में तम्बाकू, तम्बाकू इतिहास और सक्रिय और निष्क्रिय धूम्रपान के बारे में बताया। उन्होंने स्वयंसेवकों को समझाया कि उन्हें तम्बाकू के मुक्त पर्यावरण का निर्माण करना होगा सबसे पहले उन्हें तम्बाकू शुरू नहीं करना चाहिए और दूसरा, उन्हें अपने आसपास के लोगों को तम्बाकू न लेने की सलाह और जो तम्बाकू लेते हैं उनको छोड़ ने में मदद करनी चाहिए। स्वयंसेवकों को यह निर्देश दिया गया कि वे आसान 4D पद्धति द्वारा तम्बाकू छोड़ ने पर लोगों को कैसे मदद कर सकते हैं।

बहुत सारे पानी पीना, घैरी साँस लेने का व्यायाम, आहार और किसी अन्य गतिविधि में देरी या संलग्न होना।

स्वयंसेवक अर्द्ध-शहरी पृष्ठभूमि से संबंधित थे और 60% से अधिक घर पर तम्बाकू के संपर्क में थे। तो डॉ पवन गुप्ता ने आग्रह किया कि वे एक सुखद लेकिन फर्म पद्धति से घर से स्वयंसेवा करना शुरू करें।परिवार के सदस्यों को तम्बाकू छोड़ने की मार्गदर्शिका और फिर समाज को संदेश फैलाने के साथ शुरू करने के लिए आगे बढे.

इस अवसर पर श्री सुरेन्द्र मदन, जीबीएसएसएस के एनआईटी 3 फरीदाबाद प्रधानाध्यापक  और श्री भाटिया, रेड क्रॉस के उपस्थित थे।

Swami Vivekananda and Sister Margaret Awards 2017 at Kolkatta 21.12.2017

Dr Pawan Gupta M.Ch. President I CAN WIN FOUNDATION gave a talk on "COMMON HEALTH MISTAKES MADE BY WOMEN" and demonstration on Catch them early - self breast awareness on a mannequin. He emphasised also on SAVE the youth- Win over Tobacco program to be launched in the whole campus of NTPC.
Cervical cacner and its prevention was emphasised in great extent with its prevention strategy including "MY HYGEINE MY RESPONSIBILTY and HPV Vaccination"

Dr Basant Behera, Dr Kamal Purusottam, Dr Sarbani Mukherjee were present on the occasion.

The Chief Guest for the function were Mrs Ray and Mrs Gupta.

नोएडा, इरोस टाइम्स: इनोवेटिव कैंसर केयर एंड रिहैबिलिटेशन एवं डॉ. पवन गुप्ता , कैंसर डायरेक्टर जेपी हॉस्पिटल के साथ मिल कर “सेव द युथ कम्पैन (युवा बचाओ आंदोलन )” विन ओवर तम्बाकू” का लांच पूरे नोएडा में किया है।

जिला तम्बाकू नियंत्रण प्रकोष्ठ के अंतर्गत एन0ई0ए0 भवन बी 11 ए सेक्टर-06 नोएडा में प्रातः 11:00 बजे कार्यशाला का आयोजन किया। नियंत्रण जागरूकता एवं सिगरेट और अन्य तम्बाकू उत्पाद अधिनियम से सभी को अवगत कराया गया।

कार्यशाला में डॉ. स्वेता खुराना ने राष्ट्रीय तम्बाकू नियंत्रण कार्यक्रम के बारें में विस्तृत जानकारी दी, डॉ. भारत भूषण नोडल अधिकारी एन0टी0पी0सी कोटपा २००३ अधिनियम की धाराओं से अवगत कराया। श्रीमती सुकृति जैन क्वीनपैकेजिंग से सब को अवगत कराया।

मुख्य चिकित्सा अधिकारी डॉ. अनुराग भार्गव जी तथा डॉ. वी0वी0ढाका, अपर मुख्य चिकित्साधिकारी ने तम्बाकू से होने वाले दुस्प्रभाव तथा उससे होने वाली वीमारियों के बारें में जानकारी दी एवं डॉ. पवन गुप्ता ने जो की आई वन विन के अध्यक्ष है वीन टोबैको के बारें में सम्पूर्ण जानकारी लोंगो के साथ साझा की।

डॉ. पवन गुप्ता ने बताया की भारत में हर दिन करीब 5500 बच्चे तम्बाकू का सेवन करना प्रारम्भ करते है और करीब 2200 लोगों की मौत तम्बाकू चबाने से होती है। युवाओं को इस भयानक आदत से बचाना अत्यंत आवश्यक है। अभी तक स्कूलों में तंबाकू की जानकार४ी के लिए कोई नहीं पुस्तिका उपलब्ध नहीं है। परन्तु “बी स्मार्ट टू नॉट स्टार्ट” और “जागरूक रहें प्रारम्भ न करें” पुस्तिका कॉमिक द्वारा न केवल तम्बाकू के बारें में उपलब्ध जानकारी देगी अपितु तम्बाकू के अवगुणों के प्रति युवाओं को जागरूक भी करने का प्रयास करेगी।

आई कैन केयर के बिज़नेस एंड प्रोजेक्ट मैनेजर रबिन्द्र मिश्रा ने बताया की डॉ. पवन गुप्ता की लिखी गयी ये इन पुस्तिकाओं को नोएडा के छठी और उसके ऊपर की कक्षा के बच्चों तक पहुंचने का प्रयास किया जा रहा है। इसके साथ इन बच्चों को तम्बाकू की जानकारी और सेवन का सर्वे और प्लेज भी दिलवाया जा रहा है।

इनकी वेब्सीटेस ” www.winovertobacco.org” पर ऑनलाइन भी प्लेज भी कराई जा रही है। रबिन्द्र मिश्रा ने बताया की स्कूल, कॉलेज, कॉर्पोरेट, इंस्टिट्यूट सभी में करीब एक लाख युवाओं तक यह पुस्तिका एंड सर्वेक्षण करना है।

आई कैन केयर के सीईओ ऋषव अग्रवाल ने जानकारी दी की तम्बाकू के लत से बचने की ट्रेनिंग डॉक्टर्स और कॉर्पोरेट में भी कराई जा रही है। ” विन ओवर तंबाकू- मेड इजी” और तम्बाकू पे जजीत हुई आसान ” पुस्तक भी ” www.icancare.org” पर भी उपलब्ध है।

पवन ने बताया की करीब 70 % लोग जो तम्बाकू सेवन करते है वे इस लत से छुटकारा पाना चाहते है लेकिन सही मेडिकल उपाय न मिल पाने के कारण छोड़ने में अपने आप को असमर्थ महसूस करते है। इन सभी कोई सही जानकारी देना एवं उचित रास्ता बताना बेहद ही जरुरी है।

Shri Suresh Prakash Ji, I CAN WIN Association's National Secretary.

Last time, we brought you an interview with Dr Pawan Gupta, the National President of Indian Cancer Winners Association. In this issue we introduce you to another key player, Shri Suresh Prakash Agarwal, the National Secretary of the association. Shri Agarwal is a pioneer who helped in the concept and development of the I CAN WIN association. Here, he talks to medical communicator Dr Natasha Das about the association’s visions and achievements.

Dr Natasha: Namaste Sureshji. It’s a pleasure to have you with us. Please tell us something about yourself.

Suresh Ji: Dr Natasha ji namashkar. I hail from Moradabad and studied M.Com, M.A (Eco) & M.B.A from Ghaziabad. I am about 71 yrs old. We have settled at Ghaziabad since 1998. I have been involved in pharma distributorship of MNC's since 1960 and became a depot holder at Ghaziabad for Bayer India Ltd, a German based company. I got married in Jan 1972 to Shashi ji and am blessed with a son and now with a grandson who fills my life with joy and happiness.

Dr Natasha: Tell us something about your wife, Shashiji and her journey through cancer.

Suresh Ji: I was fortunate to have Shashi ji as my life partner. She was a versatile lady and a great artist. She organized many art exhibitions in Delhi, Ghaziabad and Moradabad. She developed a lump in her breast, which was later detected as cancer. In June 2006 she was operated upon by Dr. Pawan Gupta. She was treated and was fine till early 2009. Later she started having some movement problems and an MRI of the brain showed advanced stage of cancer again. This time the breast cancer had metastasized to the brain. Till her last breath in September 2009, she was an active member of the I CAN WIN association and helped many ladies like her to overcome the fear of cancer and become winners. 

Dr Natasha: I was coming to that. I believe both you and Shashiji have been associated with the Indian Cancer Winners (I CAN WIN) Association right from day of its conception. Please tell us about how everything started.

Suresh Ji: As I told you, she was a lady of great social aptitude. In January 2008, both of us decided to celebrate our marriage anniversary in the form of a Cancer Awareness program at our residence .We spoke to Dr. Pawan Gupta and Dr. Praveen Bansal about this thought. They were kind enough to spare their valuable time and accept our request to be present on the occasion and lend their immense support. The program was quite successful; about 100 families attended and admired the concept. It was an eye-opener and educative program about cancer. That was the first program we conducted under the banner of the Indian Cancer Winners’ Association.  

Dr Natasha: Shashiji’s sad demise must be a huge personal loss to you. Despite this, your inner strength to work in a dedicated manner for the cause of cancer is really commendable.

Suresh Ji: I am unable to find words to express Shashiji’s absence. With her I lost a great companion. She was great contributor towards my progress. After losing her, I took a vow to devote the rest of my life to fulfill Shashiji’s last wish i.e. to save as many lives as possible by creating greater awareness about cancer and facilitating early detection. It is a sermon for me and a new direction to my life. 

Dr Natasha: What have been I CAN WIN association’s key achievements over the last couple of years?

Suresh Ji: Dr. Natasha, I feel proud to state the overwhelming response we are receiving from all the corners. Presently we have five chapters (branches) at Moradabad, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida &  Delhi. Over 200 members have been enrolled and we have contacted around 2 lakh people by way of walk /rally, screening and awareness programs at all the chapters. It is a combined effort of all our valuable members particularly Dr. Pawan Gupta , Dr. Manish Wadhwa, Sh. RK Goel, Mrs Prabha Gupta , Dr BC Gupta , Dr. Rudra Acharya , Dr. Vinod Kumar and you, Dr. Natasha.  

Dr Natasha: Thank you, Suresh Ji. That’s what an association is all about… getting associated together to bring about a larger change. Please tell our readers about the future plans.

Suresh Ji: We are planning to have screening mobile van to speed up the screening process and to cover interior of tier 2 & tier 3 towns. Five more chapters are to be operated by June 2010 with the help of our honorable members referred earlier and other friends and volunteers. We are also liaising with other government as well as private organizations to help us in achieving our objectives.

Dr Natasha: Anything else that you would like to add?

Suresh Ji: I pray to the Almighty to bless all our members so that they become most active and this movement becomes like a Jihad.  

Dr Natasha: Insallah! Thank you for your time. It has been nice talking to somebody who has seen cancer from such close proximity and gathered so much strength to help others win over cancer.

Suresh Ji: Thank you for giving me a chance to speak up. This conversation has filled me with a new energy and a booster dose for gearing up the activities of I CAN WIN association at a much faster speed.
